The Achievement Machine, also referred to as the Trophy Machine, is one of the many exhibits present in The Stanley Parable 2 Expo. It is a large and grey machine that, when its lever is pulled, is supposed to give the Player a free achievement.

The front-center of the machine, when encountered for the first time, will display the words "TEST ACHIEVEMENT: UNACHIEVED" and when the lever is pulled will flip up to become "TEST ACHIEVEMENT: ACHIEVED". There are also Four Light Rods present near the bottom of the machine, signifying how much progress has been made so far to unlock the free achievement.

The Achievement Machine itself is more hidden off than the other The Stanley Parable 2 features, but the exhibit area is given notice through a giant signboard advertising how NEW + EASY this achievement is to get, along with an orange arrow pointing towards the entrance with the words "GET IT HERE!" printed onto it in big letters.

To the left of the entrance stands a cardboard cutout of Stanley smiling and holding up a picture of a golden trophy, emphasizing the free achievement's opulence. Once the player enters, they're greeted by a poster with instructions that further explain how to receive their achievement:

  1. Pull the lever
  2. Receive your new achievement
  3. No more steps

Claiming that "IT JUST WORKS!" and to "Get yours right now!"

Walking past the poster leads down to a basement-like corridor that passes by two vans and closed-off rooms. This area is barely lit by a single fluorescent ceiling light at the start of the room, the red rear lights of one of the delivery vans, and light coming from a side room to the right which interestingly contains an Escape Pod inside it.

Interacting with the lever at this point of the game will reveal that it gets stuck on something and goes back to its default state, and The Narrator confesses that the machine is actually broken and that being given a free achievement is technology that will exist; currently nonexistent.

He claims that he will figure it out in time for the Sequel, but much like the Name Button and Bumpscosity slider, it most likely wouldn't have been - Requiring the Settings Person to fix it without the Narrator's knowledge in the Epilogue once the player agrees to their ideas.

Acquiring the Achievement[]

Returning to The Stanley Parable 2 Expo after having completed the Epilogue, when the lever is successfully pulled, the trophy slot will open to reveal that nothing is inside, but the player will receive a notification of having acquired the Test achievement please ignore achievement.

The Narrator will initially go through stages of surprise and slight distress towards the machine working, as he didn't repair it himself and wonders if someone else fixed it and was currently watching the two of them. A few moments later, he will attempt to cover it up by explaining that the machine functioned just as it was intended, truly speaking to the awe inspiring magic of The Stanley Parable 2, before trying to calm himself further right afterwards with reassuring words.

Progression[]

The average player doesn't encounter the Achievement Machine before three lights have already been reached, but on a fresh file - it truly starts off with zero lights activated. The reason for this is because lights 1–3 are dependant on how many times the player has booted up the game, and in turn, spoken to the Settings Person.

As the Settings Person doesn't make themselves truly known until the second time booting up the game, it makes sense that the lights are initially turned off during the first boot up.

Lights
Activated
Progression
Zero (0) First time opening the game. Hasn't spoken to the Settings Person yet.
One (1) Second time opening the game. First time speaking to the Settings Person.
Two (2) Third time opening the game. Second time speaking to the Settings Person.
Three (3) Fourth time opening the game. Third time speaking to the Settings Person.
Four (4) Completing the Epilogue, selecting "Let's do it." to the Settings Person's ideas to keep making sequels.

If the player hasn't read all of the Settings Person's dialogue, which requires the player to open and close the game at least five times, the contents of the Agenda Whiteboard in the Meeting Room will be crudely erased and replaced with the text "REBOOT THE GAME ENTIRELY." written in black marker over the entire board.
