The "Narrator"

The Tape Recorder Ending is the ending that occurs when you climb into a vent and find a room filled with cassette tapes.

This ending is exclusive to Ultra Deluxe.

Obtaining The Ending[]

Exit Stanley's Office. At the Two Doors Room, pick the one on the right. Pass through the Employee Lounge, and go straight to the warehouse. If the Sequel Ending has been achieved, you can climb the wood plank to the left of the Cargo Lift and jump down to the boxes below and climb into the vent. Otherwise, you can also walk behind the box, up to the fence, and fall on the boxes, first by moving to the right, then to the left while falling. Once on the boxes, climb into the vent.

The Ending[]

The Narrator will begin speaking but will be interrupted by a tape failure, revealing his voice to have been coming from a tape player in a storage room littered with cassette tapes. After waiting for a little bit, the real Narrator will reveal himself and criticize Stanley for falling for such a cliche twist.

With The Bucket[]

If Stanley is holding the Bucket, nothing will be playing but a single tape will be in the player labelled "Evidence #252". Playing it, it turns out to be a monologue by a man who had discovered the bucket and its reassurance powers. He mentions monetizing it by letting people hold the bucket for an amount of time. Shortly afterward, his monologue gets interrupted by someone, before the man whispers "Gambhorra'ta". He then goes silent, likely having been killed by Gambhorra'ta.

Trivia[]

  • If Stanley enters the room with the jump glitch enabled (pausing the game while standing in the jump circle and selecting "Begin the game again"), an Elden Ring/Dark Souls Easter egg can be found in the room with the tape recorder. Turning away from the tape recorder and jumping over the boxes on the right hand side will reveal a Souls-like message on the floor that opens a prompt when clicked on spawns a ghostly version of Stanley, which disappears when exiting the prompt. This easter egg in particular is really strange, because it only appears when you perform a bug.
  • There is unused dialogue for the Bucket Variant of this ending in the game files, where instead of the Tape Man talking in the recordings, the Narrator is the speaker, this time commenting on how the Bucket found the Vent leading to the Tape Recorder Room, then eventually starting to loop again. Then it's revealed that the Bucket didn't actually contain any Reassurance Power, and the entire thing was a joke. The Narrator then laughs at Stanley on how stupid he was.
